What a busy, fun-filled 4th of July weekend. Of course it was a holiday, but Shaun also got married on July 5 to Analee Wheeler. It was a beautiful wedding. Cashelle has a picture of the happy couple on her blog. Chris, Amanda, Cody, Lacey, and Landon came up the night of July 3. Cashelle and A. J. and their family came down the morning of July 5. It is so much fun to get the family all together. We had a blast.
We had a picnic the afternoon of July 4. We rode up Manti Canyon and found a place to enjoy a picnic. This is Curt, Chris, Lacey, Landon, Amanda, and Cody in the back of the truck. We just made sandwiches, brought chips, and drinks. It was nice and cool up the canyon--and it was pretty to boot!
Another picture of the crowd with me added and Curt subtracted.
Amanda set Cody down by a log. Isn't this the cutest picture? She is so good at setting up and taking interesting pictures. I could take a lesson from her.
Lucky was just trying to kiss Curt. I missed the kiss, but got them looking at each other.
Lacey, Landon, and Cody in the back of the truck.
Chris, Cody, and Lucky on the 4-wheeler. Chris took Cody off the 4-wheeler and he kept squealing and reaching for it. He loves the 4-wheeler! So Chris took him for a little drive partway down the canyon--very slowly--with Curt paving the way in the truck.
Now, isn't this the most? Chris in his element. Craig and Kristen (cousins) gave this gem of a 4-wheeler to Chris (Wes brought it home--thanks, Wes). It was so nice of Craig and Kristen to part with their little 4-wheeler. It ISN'T designed for adults, but you'll see in the following picture almost everyone had to try it out. Thanks, Craig and Kristen!
Here's Landon giving it a whirl. He said it's lots of fun to drive.
Chris and Cody--I think it'll be a little while before Cody will be riding HIS 4-wheeler.
A.J. taking his turn.
Lacey needed a turn.
Finally, the kids got to try it out. Here's Madalynn with A.J. trailing behind with a rope tied to the kill switch. They could adjust the throttle so it wouldn't go very fast, but they used the rope "just in case."
Audrey getting ready to take off. They absolutely loved riding it.
Here is Thomas showing off his skills--all by himself!
Isn't this an adorable picture? Thomas on the left--Cody on the right. Amanda bought them matching T-shirts that said "Whatever happens at Grandma's, stays at Grandmas."
Thomas, Amanda, and Madalynn on the Honda.
Sitting around the firepit in our backyard. Before we set off fireworks of our own (on July 5th), Curt lit the firepit and we made s'mores. Before the s'mores we roasted hot dogs. It was so much fun. I love this part of our backyard. Curt built it last year.
Cashelle and Lacey sitting by the fire.
Thomas with a sparkler.
Amanda lighting a sparkler for Madalynn. Cody is sure keeping his eye on what's going on.
A.J.'s dad does workshops all over the country. One of the things he does, shows how if you focus you can lift people out of their chair using only two fingers on each hand. They start out by trying to lift her with two fingers on each hand at the very first--doesn't work. Then they alternate putting their hands over her head, piling them on top of each other without touching. Then they each hold their two hands together, counting to three and raising them in the air. When they reach under her person, they can then lift them way up into the air. This is Lacey in the chair with Amanda, Chris, A.J. and Landon assisting. They also did it to me (heaven forbid, I could give them a hernia). I warned them. But it did work. They also did it to Josh.
Here is Amanda in the air supported by Chris, Lacey, A.J., and Landon.
One of the fountains going off.
We also decided to take a trip to Ferron to do a little fishing. We went up 12-mile and then across the top. From left to right: Cody, Amanda, Cashelle (with Spencer due in September), Chris, Madalynn, and Audrey. Chris caught a pretty nice one right off the bat. It was a beautiful day.
On the way up 12-mile canyon, we stopped at a place where Curt had carved his name and date in a tree. It had been in the middle of the winter. The carving was 12 or 13 feet up the tree. That shows you how deep the snow had been. He and others had gone up on snowmobiles to help rescue people in a helicopter that had crashed up there. Everyone was okay. This happened the first winter we were married--1979.
Looking down at Ferron from the west. Isn't it beautiful?
Madalynn is becoming quite the caster. She and Audrey have these cute little fishing poles that has a plastic fish on the line that they can cast out and reel in. Madalynn can really cast it out there quite a ways.
Here's Audrey. She was really getting good at casting by the time we left.
