Catch Up

No pictures this time, but I haven't posted for a while so I thought I better do something. The past weekend, Chris/Amanda/Cody and Lacey came to spend the weekend. Cody is so cute! And Amanda is going to be such a great little mommy. I'm so proud of her. And Chris is one of the proudest papas I have ever seen. He is so cute with him. It was also fun having Lacey here, too. I love it when the kids come home! I had to teach Relief Society this weekend so I had to spend some time studying. I'm glad Lacey got to come and hear my lesson.

Next weekend Chris/Amanda/Cody and Cashelle/A.J./Madalynn/Audrey/Tommy are coming to visit and maybe Lacey and Landon(?). I'm excited to see them. Audrey has been having some medical problems lately so remember to keep her in your prayers. She goes in for some tests at Primary Children's Hospital on Wednesday about noon. She has started fainting when she is scared or startled--not completely blacked out but her lips turn blue, body goes rigid, etc. We actually think it has something to do with her vegus(?) nerve--we had to call the EMT's one night when they were here and that is what the EMT's thought. So does Cashelle's doctor. Lila has the same problem. So did Grandpa Ben's sister, Barbara. Audrey is having tests just to make sure. There's really not anything they can do for her if that is the problem. It's something she'll just have to live with.

I had to go to the dentist today after school. I had two root canals in Orem in June, and I was getting them prepped for a cap. The dentist put four pins in and built it up for a cap, and I didn't even have it deadened! It's a little sore tonight, though.

We're back in school now--doesn't even seem like we had a summer. Curt will be retiring at the school after this year but will continue to drive bus. He has to go on trips this year. In fact on Thursday, he's taking the girls' soccer team to Fillmore. That will be a new experience for him. Let me know how you all are doing . . .

A New Baby in the Family--Cody Curtis

We have a new baby in the family!--our fourth grandchild (second grandson). Chris and Amanda had their baby on Thursday, August 16, about 10:30 p.m. He weighed 7 lbs. 12 oz. and was 19 1/2 inches long. He is a sweetie! Amanda sure was a trooper. I am really proud of her. She went natural all the way. Looking at her picture she looks a little drugged (just kidding, Amanda) but she wasn't! Tired, is what I would call it. She had no epidural, no painkillers, no shots, nothing. I was so proud of her. She had a little fever before she delivered so the baby had to have an IV with antibiotics just to make sure he didn't get sick. That's why the picture below looks like he has a cast on. Amanda's mom, DeAnne, was able to come and stay with her the week before delivery and was there with her in the hospital. I was so glad she was able to be there to help Amanda. Chris is the proudest papa!

Cashelle, Lacey, Madalynn, and Audrey made the sign for Amanda. She cried when she came home and saw it. That was so sweet of the girls to do that for her.

Cody is so cute! (I'm not prejudiced or anything.) Just look at that cute little dimple in his chin. He's going to be a heartbreaker. Wow, isn't family wonderful?!?

4-Wheeling Again

Look to the left of Lucky and you can see a marking on the aspen tree. This was made by pioneers when they made trails up in the mountains so they could find their way back. The picture just below this one shows a marking even better.

Here are a couple of pictures of the group that went. We had something like eight 4-wheelers altogether. We really had a fun time.

Pictures of the golf course from the mountain to the west of the course. Pretty, isn't it? You could also see (besides Palisades) Gunnison Reservoir and 9-Mile Reservoir.

Landon's parents were in town with a bunch of family and friends and wanted to go on a wheeler ride. So, Curt was the guide. We went up the dump road and drove over so we could see the golf course from on top of the mountain. It was a beautiful sight. Then we went up 6-mile until we got to Harmon's trail. It was quite a trail. On our last 4-wheeler ride I mentioned how I almost fell off the 4-wheeler. Well, this time I really DID fall off. Landon had to rescue me again. We went up some pretty scary roads with lots of rocks, tree roots, ruts, mud, water, etc. But I made it home alive and pretty much unhurt--this time. Just my pride was damaged. After we got out on the main road, we drove past Twin Ponds, across the top, and down Manti Canyon.

New Toyota 4 Runner

Well, we did it. We traded off our Jeep (I was so sad--I loved that Jeep) and bought a 2007 Toyota 4 Runner. If any of you know Curt, you'll laugh so hard when you find out where we bought it--Brent Brown Chevrolet in Orem. The top picture is of our Jeep. I had to get one last picture of it. The bottom picture is our new 4 Runner. It is a sandy color. It has leather seats, sun roof, individualized heat/air controls, heated seats, and a bunch of other stuff. Robbie Hansen (Carol the hairdresser's son) sold it to us. His sales manager was Bruce Barton from Manti. Weird--go to Orem to buy a car and you work with Manti High School graduates. When we left home on Friday, we took Grandma Kjar up to spend the night at Maree's while we went to the Bees game and stayed in Tooele. She had such a nice time at Maree's. She got to see Maxine, Leadelle and her girls, Lestelle and kids (I think), Kaylee, and Eric, Marie and Leisl. She was especially happy to get to see Eric since he has been so sick. Good luck with your new treatment next week, Eric! She also got to see Kaylee's new house, Stephanie's new house, and Kara's new house. She had a great time.

Geocaching in Tooele

While Curt and A. J. got in a round of golf this morning, Cashelle, Madalynn, Audrey, and I went geocaching in Tooele. If you don't know what geocaching is--it is so much fun! You use a GPS to locate "hidden" treasures. When you find it you log your name, date, and any other information. But it is fun! We looked for three, but only found one. It was in the crack of a telephone pole. The first picture shows Cashelle looking for a geocache on top of a monument standing on me because we weren't tall enough. Madalynn took the picture--what a great photographer! We were all laughing so hard I could hardly get back up. The last picture shows Madalynn with the cache in her hand showing the camera.

Bees Game

Friday night, August 10, A.J.'s dad got us tickets to watch the Salt Lake Bees play Portland. The Bees won 7-4. These four pictures were taken that night. After the game, Curt and I went to Tooele and spent the night with A.J. and Cashelle. We had a lot of fun--even though we had to trapse all across the Salt Lake Valley to get to Tooele (I-80 Westbound was shutdown so we had to backtrack to 21st South).

Fish Lake, August 4, 2007

Cary fixing a fishing pole.

Every year the Duncans gather for a family get together at Fish Lake. We have a lot of fun talking, fishing, eating, and laughing.

Gathering around the fire.

Moses! (That's the name Curt gave Brian with his big stick.) Kind of looks like he's ready to do something!

Scenery at Fish Lake (actually this was a little south, out near Johnson's Reservoir to the north).

28th Wedding Anniversary, July 30, 2007

Audrey swimming!

On July 30 Curt and I celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary. We stayed at Cashelle and A.J.'s the night before and then went to Wendover where we had a mini-suite in the Peppermill. Cashelle, A.J., Madalynn, Audrey, and Thomas came out to dinner with us and then went swimming at the Rainbow.

July 28--4-wheeling with the Twitchells

Lucky loves the 4-wheeler (and water).

On Saturday, July 28, we (Curt and I) went on a 4-wheeler ride with Lacey and Landon, Jerry and Shelly (Landon's parents), Shelly's sister (Tanya), and her two boys. We spent the whole day up there. We went up the Patton Trail, down the Upper Burnt Hill Road, across Skyline, down and across the bench and back, up to Nielsen's cabin up North Fork, and home again. We had a great time.
